The Hurricane that Hit on Halloween

This 2005 Tropical Hurricane Season has been truly horrific but will we see a Hurricane hit on Halloween? That would be much more scary than the little witches and goblins knocking on your door during Halloween day. In fact Hurricanes do not knock on the door, they knock over the whole house as we have seen along the shores of the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas during the recent Super Storms of Hurricane Rita and Katrina.

If you are telling your children a scary story for the Halloween Season, tell them of the Horrific Hurricane that hit on Halloween. Make your children aware of the forces of Mother Nature, do not let them grow up and become the ones who refuse to evacuate because they are too busy or bothered by it all.

Do not spend all that time and money to merely raise children who will grow up to what we call “Hurricanrs” those who do not listen to mandatory evacuations and stay behind to be victims or corps. Indeed one of the best lessons you can give to your kids this Halloween Season is to respect Mother Natures force by telling them of the Hurricane that Hit Halloween Day. You can take it from here, think on it.

How Much Do You Know About Halloween?

How much do you know about the spooky holiday of Halloween? As you probably know, Halloween is celebrated on the 31st October and the name Halloween descends from the old name Hallows Eve, the night of the dead. This is why children and adults alike dress up as spooky characters suck as ghosts, goblins, vampires, monsters, witches and anything that goes bump in the night.

It is also said that on this night dedicated to the dead, that there are more spiritual energies, making it a more receptive night to contact the dead, and for the dead to contact the living.

Halloween is often considered an American festivity, so it might surprise you to know that it originated in Ireland as the Pagan Celtic harvest festival Samhain. Halloween wasn't exported to America until the 19th century, when many Irish folk emigrated.

The Celts celebrated as their harvest festival because by the end of October all the hard work of harvesting the crops was over. They also saw Halloween as marking the time when the days would shorten and there would be darkness and coldness of the winter season.

Many Christians prefer to celebrate the following day, All saints day on 1st November (also know as 'All hallows' and 'All souls day') This is to avoid conflict with their religious beliefs. The word hallow means sanctify in old English, 'to free from sin'. All saints day is therefore considered to be a day of goodness.

Halloween and its festivities have now been spread to most of the western world. However, the old Halloween meaning has been lost and replaced. Nowadays Halloween is seen as a festive holiday of fun and spookiness. A time to dress up and have a fun time, maybe to go ‘trick or treating’ or to go to a spooky Halloween part. Halloween is a time to spook yourself, or maybe someone else, BOO!

A Spooky Halloween Party

Halloween history is all about dressing up in scary costumes and eating sweets. There is no reason to make your party any different. When Halloween party planning it’s important that you decide on a theme, let your imagination go wild. Some good Halloween party ideas include horror films, myths and many more. Be sure to include some frightening Halloween party supplies. Green jelly with jelly insects always goes down a treat and not just with the kids.

The important thing when thinking about Halloween recipes is to consider whether you can dress your Halloween recipes up so they are suitably frightening for a Halloween party. Don’t forget to include alcohol for the adults and pop for the children, Halloween party games can be a very thirsty affair. Halloween party favors can be as outrageous or traditional as you like. Most kids will be more than happy with a bag full of treats, or you could use a party game to decorate cookies and scoop out pumpkins. These also make excellent party favors.

One of the most entertaining parts of arranging a Halloween party must be arranging the Halloween decorations. Fake spiders and bats are inexpensive at any time of year, although buying them in advance will mean they will be cheaper. Drape white sheets all over the furniture and the house, especially the banisters. Get hold of some dead flowers and spray them black. Fake spider webbing is always available and gives a brilliant effect, especially if you get the UV ones that glow in the dark. Consider putting up UV strip lights, if your budget is a little higher, this will really show off the white sheets to great effect.

Halloween Gift Baskets

If you are thinking about something unusual for Halloween, then what could be better than Halloween gift baskets. These gifts are specially put together for purchase at this time of year. You can even make your own Halloween gift baskets. Both younger and older children will simply love them.

A lot of people may think that Halloween gift baskets would be a very large arrangement and that this type of gift is most commonly used as a present. You may be surprised to know that Halloween gift baskets come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. You can make really small ones for the children in your local neighbourhood or a large Halloween gift basket for the whole family to enjoy.

Some people I know do not celebrate Halloween, although I can't think of a good reason why one should not enjoy this time of year to the full. Some people spend their time playing games or going out instead. As my children became more interested in the festivities that surround Halloween, I thought it would be a good idea to make them some Halloween gift baskets.

When making Halloween gift baskets I had to approach this with caution as some parents may be opposed to some of the themes surrounding Halloween celebrations. So, instead of opting for the more traditional black and orange colours for my Halloween gift baskets, I decided to use red and white as the main colours. These were designed to be themed.

I decided to make movie based Halloween baskets, with items such as popcorn balls arranged in holders, along with some of their favourite drinks as a special treat. I thought it would be a nice touch for the girls to have autumnal pajamas at the bottom of the gift baskets.

What better gift to include in a Halloween gift basket than a movie. Each basket contained a different Halloween movie so that the children could swap them with each other or loan them out to watch.

The other children in the neighbourhood were given more traditional Halloween gift baskets with ghoulish treats which they enjoyed immensely. For more ideas on gift baskets, costumes and Halloween stuff please visit our site.
